Intex Pool Pumps: Sizes and Types

intex pool pumps

There are several different models of the Intex Pool Pumps, just as there are various models of Intex Pools to match up with the pumps. When you are picking out the pump it is imperative that you make sure to get the right sized pump for your pool. If the wrong pump is picked out, it will not be as effective in cleaning and cycling the pool’s water. When you buy an Intex Pool, a pump will be part of the package, for the bigger pools often times you will want to upgrade to a larger pump. This is because the bigger Intex Pool Pumps are more effective in keeping a pool clean and they are less maintenance. Less cleaning the filters, less replacing the filters and the water stays cleaning longer and looks sparkling for an extended period of time.

The setup on all Intex Pool Pump models is relatively easy; only a minimal amount of setup is needed. In addition to their everyday Pool Pumps, Intex manufactures Saltwater-cleaning systems that are designed to replace the use of chemicals to keep your pool sparkling blue and clean. Intex also has hoses, washers and gaskets, strainers, nuts, cartridges and timers to help make sure your Intex Pool Pump will work properly with any pool you choose. They also make sand based filter pumps, which is another way to clean your pool in an eco-friendly way. These both are alternative options to not have to use harmful chemicals. Both of these types of pumps are not sold in different sizes and are a significant amount more money than Intex’s other basic filter pumps. Intex Pool Pumps make these types starting at 1500 gallons an hour and the next size up is 2650 gallons an hour.

Intex pool pumps are great at doing what they are meant to do. They pump water fast and filter it well, so within a couple hours your pool will be looking sparkling and clean. However, Intex Pool Pumps have shown a reoccurring design flaw in several of their filter pumps. The impeller, a piece of the pump that helps to move the water through the filter, tends to break down after a several months of use. This is a big issue because when the impeller stops working, the Intex Pool Pump will not work because the water cannot circulate through the filter. There are a couple possibilities to fix this issue before it is used but they tend to be difficult and not everyone is a do it yourself kind of person who would understand how to fix such an object. Additionally, Intex does not make or sell the impellers separately and to find the right sized piece in order to replace it your self is difficult. Even though this is a major issue, Intex Pool Pumps work really well as filters and water pumps.
